The insurance and risk management industry announced the launch of a collaborative initiative dedicated to the education of students and young professionals about the industry and career opportunities.
The program, MyPath: Insurance, is supported by dozens of the nation's top insurance and risk management organizations, powered by the Institutes and its affiliates, the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, the CPCU Society and the CPCU-Loman Education Foundation.
The multi-faceted program will work to attract top talent through its engagement-driven website and millennial-facing advertising campaign.
"The only way to ensure our industry can continue to serve its vital role in society and the economy is by attracting top talent to our profession," said Peter Miller, The Institutes' president and chief executive officer. "By aligning stakeholders from every aspect of the profession and presenting a unified voice, MyPath can accomplish this goal by demonstrating, in a big and bold way, why millennials should join our ranks. We are thrilled to officially launch this collaborative initiative."
"Ensuring our pipelines are filled with talented, enthusiastic young people in the years to come is a high priority," said Marita Zuraitis, president and chief executive officer, The Horace Mann Companies. "MyPath is our go-to resource for reaching that audience in a comprehensive, streamlined way."
The goal of the effort is to provide youth with the education and tools they need to choose their own career path in the insurance field. The website serves to connect students to insurance organizations through internship opportunities, financial assistance, career information and educational videos. Currently, more than 140 internships are listed, as well as 100 videos gathered from various stakeholder organizations.
In addition, the website features a major-matching tool, Find Your Path, which enables students to match their majors and interests to careers in the insurance industry. Additional functionality of the website is to be launched throughout the coming months. In the future, the program plans to offer scholarship opportunities, collegiate studies information and interactive career experiences on the website.
"The MyPath website is designed to capture the attention of young people and lead them to explore careers in risk management and insurance," said Bruce Kelley, president and chief executive officer, EMC Insurance Companies. "It is vital to bring youth to the industry."
"MyPath is designed to show young adults that regardless of their career interests and skill sets, insurance can be the right fit," Miller said. "After all, insurance touches all aspects of society, and we need people who understand everything from economics and English to communications and computer science. The opportunities are limitless. "
MyPath is currently growing its network of industry partners, and any organization that would like to become a partner can join the effort by going to www.InsureMyPath.org/GetInvolved.
