Europe has been hammered with heavy rains this week, with northern Italy and southern France receiving the brunt of the damage.
On Thursday, it got to be too much, when the Bisagno River, one of the largest waterways in the region, overflowed its banks, flooding the city of Genoa, Italy and killing at least one person, who was swept away.
According to The Weather Channel, more than seven inches of rain fell in Genoa in the three-day period ending Friday morning, with as much as 12 inches of rain falling in the Apennine Mountains near the city in that time.
Flooding swamped city streets in the northern Italian coastal city of Genoa (population about 600,000) Thursday night. Numerous vehicles were trapped by water up to windshields, then floated, and piled into and on top of each other once the floodwaters subsided.
