Well-known NASCAR driver Tony Stewart hit and killed a fellow competitor on the track during a sprint race at Canadiagua Motorsports Park in western New York on Saturday night in an apparent tragic accident.

Kevin Ward Jr., a 20-year-old racer in the dirt track league, was declared dead at a local hospital following the incident.

According to amatuer video shot during the race, Ward had climbed out of his car following a crash with Stewart and walked out onto the track to confront the NASCAR star. Stewart reportedly didn't see Ward — who was dressed in a black jumpsuit during the evening race — and hit the driver with the side of his car as he passed.
