Talk about an insurance nightmare.
Two double-decker tour buses crashed into each other at 47th Street and 7th Avenue in Times Square near the TKTS discount Broadway ticket booth yesterday afternoon. According to CNN, a red Gray Line bus sideswiped a blue CitySights NY tour bus and a GMC Yukon. The bus jumped the curb, hit a yellow traffic light pole, and crashed into a stone bench occupied by pedestrians.
At least 13 people were injured, one seriously, says CNN. It is surprising how few injuries there were, considering the buses crashed into an area that is normally packed with tourists.
Seventh Avenue was closed off for a few blocks as authorities conducted an investigation into the crash, causing nightmarish rush hour traffic. Crowds of people gathered around the site to take pictures and videos.
The driver of the Gray Line bus, William Dalambert of Irvington, N.J., was charged with driving while ability-impaired due to drugs, says CNN.
