AT&T has confirmed that user Social Security numbers and call records were compromised in a data breach in April, reports CBS.

In a statement, AT&T says three employees of one of its vendors accessed customer accounts without proper authorization between April 9 and 21. AT&T believes the employees were attempting to hack request codes that can unlock AT&T phones, and in the process accessed users' Social Security numbers, birthdates, and private account information, says CBS.

It is unknown how many users are affected. AT&T is offering a year of free credit monitoring to those affected, although the company didn't specifiy whether credit card information had also been accessed.

AT&T is the latest company to report it has been struck with a data breach. On Friday, restaurant chain P.F. Chang's announced user credit card information was stolen from some of its restaurants. AT&T and P.F. Chang's join Target Corp. and Neiman Marcus Group Ltd. in being hit by hackers in attacks that have exposed the data of a large number of customers.
