Insurance premiums in Texas are expected to be among the highest in the country in 2014, according to a video report from Fox34. Hail storms, tornadoes and grass fires across the state are to blame for the rate hikes being sought by the state's top three homeowners insurers.
Three of the state's largest insurance companies intend to raise premiums by 6.5 to 15%. According to the Fox34 report, Texans are paying about $600-dollars more per year than the rest of the country.
Ron Hettler of the Hettler Insurance Agency says premiums in the state are tied directly to the weather. “We live in an exciting part of the country,” Hettler said. “The skies tend to turn dark, and blow fast and hard. And hail is the biggest reason, there's no question it's hail.”
