American International Group teamed with Resolve Maritime Academy, broker Atlass Insurance and Roscioli Yachting Center to offer a group of Florida firefighters training in how to fight fires in marinas, boat basins and yacht yards.
AIG insurers more than 200 yachts of at least 80 feet worldwide.

Yacht fires are typically fought by firefighters who have been trained and have experience in buildings and homes, but yacht fires have unique characteristics with the tendency to spread rapidly to other yachts in crowded facilities.
Specialized techniques are needed to fight yacht fire with water, since a sunken ship could result in higher losses and pollution expenses.
Eighteen firefighters from Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Davie Fire Rescue received the training over three days. The one-of-a-kind program included classroom instruction, a controlled burn simulation and a yacht facility tour.
