Superstorm Sandy swept over the East Coast of the U.S. on October 29, 2012. It was the Northeast's deadliest windstorm in nearly half a century and the third-costliest insured storm in the U.S. Sandy's property insurance losses total $18.75 billion and economic losses total $70 billion.
