Karen Bailo is general manager, agency sales and distribution at Progressive
I'm following up on an article you posted on October 7 titled, "Big I's Rusbuldt: McKinsey is Dead Wrong."
As the No. 1 private passenger auto insurance carrier sold through independent agents, we support the comments made by Mr. Rusbudlt regarding McKinsey's proclamation that it is "the end of an era for the local insurance agent."
Many consumers choose the objective, professional counsel of an independent agent in helping them with their insurance needs. We don't see this changing any time soon.
At Progressive, never in our 76-year history has our agency channel been bigger than it is today. Independent agents account for more than half of our policies in force and continue to show steady growth. With more than 35,000 independent agencies, we understand how important they are for our success and the tremendous value they provide their customers.
Just like any business in today's world, agents know they must embrace change and adjust their business models. We are continually listening to our agents to find out how we can help them grow their business and strongly support them with a well-known brand, creative ways to help them maintain relevance and visibility, and innovative products that will help them better serve the needs of their customers.
Independent agents have been a vital part of our business in the past and will continue to play a critical role in the future.
