Sanders has 32 years of insurance industry experience with Alterra Specialty, Mx Specialty, Hilb Rogal and Hobbs and McDuff Underwriters. He began his career as an underwriter for Aetna Casualty and Surety Co. in 1981.
Richmond, Va.-based Markel Corp. completed its $3 billion buy of Alterra Capital in April and has added two new business units: Markel Global Reinsurance and Markel Global Insurance.
Latham has worked for Markel from 1989 until 1991 and from 2002 until the present. Markel says Latham has been instrumental in the reorganization and expansion of Markel's excess and surplus lines business. He was named president of the wholesale division in 2010 and has held other positions including president of Markel Re and chief information officer.
Latham was president of NAPSLO from 2000-2001.
