Following catastrophic weather events such as Superstorm Sandy and the recent flooding in Colorado, a New Jersey-based nonprofit group says it's time for a national disaster relief fund backed by new revenue that includes a levy on atmospheric carbon emissions. 

According to reporter Kirk Moore of New Jersey's Asbury Park Press, the group, U.S. Strong, released a report concluding uninsured losses from these types of events cost businesses, public infrastructure and private property billions of dollars. Sen. Robert Singer, R-Ocean, appeared in Point Pleasant, N.J. with organizers of the report.

The group is pushing an "Extreme Weather Relief and Protection Fund."
