As more millennials enter the workplace, the traditional 9-to-5 workday is becoming outdated by the new generation's modern attitudes toward work.

Concepts such as self-employment and freelancing are growing in popularity with young people in the workforce, and a recent survey of 2,000 freelancing millennials revealed that 89 percent would prefer to choose their own hours, rather than working a traditional 9-to-5 position.

But the next generation's dissatisfaction with the current state of the workplace does not stop there. Forbes indicates that 45 percent of millennials are more likely to choose a workplace that provides more flexibility over a position that offers higher pay, although economic security is still a major concern.

The article also claims that millennials are driven by affecting their communities through their jobs, with a sense of purpose being one of the top concerns of young people in the workplace. Additionally, the vast majority seek to make meaningful connections in the office, with 71 percent citing that coworkers should be like "a second family."
