State Farm Insurance will be seeking to file a subrogation lawsuit against utility company NV Energy for claims related to Nevada's Caughlin Ranch Fire.
State Farm spokeswoman Angela Thorpe says the insurer cannot comment on the amount and cost of the related claims because the case is yet to be filed, but that the company has sent a letter notifying affected customers to call with any questions.
In November 2011, a wind-fueled wildfire broke out in a development of Reno. According to the City of Reno's Burn Area Emergency Rehabilitation (BAER) team, the flames spread over 1,946 acres, destroyed 28 homes and damaged an additional 15 with an estimated market value property loss of over $10 million.
It was later discovered that the fire was caused by a falling branch that hit an arced power line owned by NV Energy.
