American International Group, Inc. has named Jim Dwane as the new president and CEO of its property and casualty business in Latin America and the Caribbean.

AIG continues to replace executives involved in an exodus to Berkshire and at the same time moves to expand its market share in the fast-growing Americas region.

Dwane, who has been with AIG for nearly 20 years, formerly oversaw AIG P&C operations in the southeastern U.S. He replaces Sanjay Godhwani, who joined Berkshire in April with Peter Eastwood, David Bresnahan, and David Fields.

Dwane will oversee the 15 countries of his new territory and will be based in AIG's regional offices in Miami. Dwane will report to Robert Schimek, president and CEO of AIG Property Casualty's Americas Region.

“Since I joined the Americas Region two months ago, my highest priority has been to refine our organizational structure in order to facilitate the achievement of our strategic objectives,” said Schimek, in a statement, adding Dwane is “yet another example of the deep bench of experienced, global professionals we have at AIG.”

Schimek was CEO of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region before replacing Eastwood in the Americas unit.

In an internal memo provided to PC360, Schimek also said Alejandro Pedroza was named chief operating officer for Brazil, reporting to the country's general manager, Jaime Calvo.

Pedroza had been general counsel for Latin America and the Caribbean, AIG said. Managers in Argentina and Uruguay will now report directly to Dwane, instead of to Calvo, who will concentrate on expansion plans in Brazil, according to the memo.
