New Hires and Promotions at Sedgwick, Digital Insurance and Markel - Around the Industry

Elliott Jones, managing director of Aon Risk Solutions' Chicago location, was appointed president of the National African American Insurance Assn.'s Chicago chapter. Jones will serve as president through 2013.

Sedgwick named Darrell Brown as the company's chief performance officer.  In this position, Brown will develop and oversee the measurement of quality and performance programs, processes and systems. Brown joined Sedgwick in 2001 as an assistant claims manager and served as area manager of the southern California region. Brown is based at Sedgwick's office in Long Beach, Calif.

Digital Insurance, an employee benefits-only agency, appointed Carl Pilger as the in-house legal counsel. As vice president, legal counsel, he will manage benefits-related legal matters, education, compliance and healthcare reform initiatives. In the past, Pilger has worked in a variety of legal and consulting positions.

Mike Scyphers has been promoted to chief information officer at Markel. Scyphers previously served as technology lead for Markel Wholesale.

Mergers & Acquisitions

Digital Insurance acquired the Group Brokerage Insurance Agency of Cambridge, Mass. The employee benefits-only firm now operates under the name of Digital Benefit Advisors, a division of Digital Insurance. It is the company's first office in the Boston area.

New Programs

Alexander J. Wayne & Assocs. introduced Triple Net Lease insurance. This program covers the loss of rent resulting from a physical loss of the property, and is aimed at landlords renting to large commercial tenants.

MSO expanded its specialty businessowners programs to include funeral directors and dry cleaners. Coverage also is available for bed and breakfasts, restaurants, self storage, landlords, condominium owners and home businesses.

Sterling & Sterling Inc. rebranded as SterlingRisk. The project will include a new website and a social media initiative. SterlingRisk offers corporation solutions including aviation, property, casualty, personal lines, environmental, construction, surety, TPA services and employee benefits solutions.
