Senn Dunn Insurance added Jackie Ireland as director of health and wellness. She will lead the wellness team in the design and implementation of a wellness strategy for clients. Ireland has a BS in exercise physiology and a M.Ed. in health education & promotion as well as numerous certifications.

Andrew Steen was named president of Berkley Canada. Steen has more than 20 years of property-casualty experience in Canada. He will lead the team through Berkley Canada's regional expansion efforts.

InVEST announced the addition of Denise Johnson to its national board. She is vice president and producer of ECI Agency in Piedmont, Okla. She is also the former Independent Insurance Agents of Greater Oklahoma City president.

Leslie Lacroix was elected chair of Applied Systems Client Network (ASCnet) for 2013. She is director of operations for Southland Insurance Service in Windsor, Ontario. Other newly elected officers and directors include Donna Barr LaGoy as vice chair, John Warn as treasurer and Maureen Boeing as past chair.

Robert Benmosche will receive the 2013 Insurance Hall of Fame award, to be presented at the June 17 gala dinner and IIS 49th Annual Seminar in Seoul, Korea. The award honors leaders who have made broad, encompassing and lasting contributions to the industry and are recognized by peers as successful innovators and visionaries. Benmosche joined AIG as president and CEO in August 2009 and is credited with saving AIG from financial collapse.

 

Mergers & Acquisitions

Marsh & McLennan acquired Independent Insurance Group Benefits, based in Dallas, Texas. Independent Insurance will be folded into Marsh & McLennan's Prescott Pailet Benefits, expanding its depth and expertise in employee benefits.

Brown & Brown purchased Gilbert RV Insurance as part of its plan to expand in the recreational vehicle insurance market. 

R-T Specialty, the brokerage segment of Ryan Specialty Group, acquired International Facilities Insurance Services (IFIS). IFIS has a workers' comp specialty complemented by general commercial liability wholesale activities and expertise in oil, gas and trucking/transportation risks. 

Neace Lukens completed its acquisition of the Davis-Garvin Agency, headquartered in Columbia, S.C. with a focus on lumber and forestry products. Davis-Garvin customers will have the benefit of greater product offerings and support from Neace Lukens as a result of Neace's expansion goals.

 

New Programs

K&K Insurance Group announced a specialty program targeting groups organizing walk or run events. The Walk/Run Event Program coverages will protect the organization, including its employees and volunteers, from liability claims and will also include medical payments for participants. Events meeting the following criteria qualify:

  • Maximum of 10,000 participants
  • Events lasting three days or less
  • Total course distance under 16 miles.

Kaliff Insurance and Lloyd's of London recently established expanded coverage for amusement rides for the carnival industry. Kaliff has been an underwriter for the outdoor amusement agency for 96 years including fairs, festivals, live-stock shows, carnivals and more.  

 

News

Applied Systems was awarded two patents for technology in Applied Systems Epic, its brokerage management system. Patent 8,234,219 is for tech that protects potentially sensitive information such as SNNs. Patent 8,290,971 is for technology within Epic that presents information in an intuitive way, allowing Epic users to quickly view optimal data.
