Progressive says its net income for the first nine months of this year is down by 14 percent, or $106 million, to $653 million.
Total revenues grew 8 percent compared to the first nine months of 2011, but expenses increased by 10 percent during the same period.
The company issued no commentary about the results, but did say it plans to hold a conference call on Nov. 2.
For the month of September, Progressive says net income was $76.5 million, down less than 1 percent compared to September last year.
Net premium earned during the month rose 9 percent to $1.25 billion.
The company's combined ratio for September rose 1.6 points to 94.
Both its direct market and independent agent placed insurance showed increases in policies written during the month.
Agency auto policies in force for September rose 5 percent, or by 234,000 policies, to 4.85 million policies compared to September last year. Direct auto policies rose 6 percent, or by 218,000 policies, to over 4 million policies.
Total personal-lines policies increased by 5 percent, to 12.86 million policies.
Last month, Progressive's net income shot-up more than $119 million to more than $141 million.
