Catastrophe modeler Eqecat says a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in Columbia is expected to cause insured losses of less than $100 million.
The modeler says the Sept. 30 earthquake, though strong, was relatively deep. Therefore, significant shaking was not widespread even though the earthquake is the strongest one the country has felt since 2004.
Shaking was felt in localized pockets—especially in sites with very soft soils—where shaking amplification can occur, Eqecat says.
Reuters says there were no reports of deaths or major damage.
The quake's epicenter was Cauca and struck about 11:30 a.m. local time with a depth of more than 100 miles.
