An estimated $6.5 billion in productivity could be lost because of Fantasy Football-related distractions in the workplace, warns Challenger, Grey & Christmas. Do the math: 22.3 million participants earning an average hourly wage of $19.33 and working on their leagues an hour a week during a 15-week season could potentially cost American employers $6.46 billion.

However, Challenger's own 2012 survey found fantasy football had no discernible impact on productivity. Those surveyed rated the impact a 4 out of 10. A 2006 Ipsos survey showed 40 percent of respondents said fantasy football was actually a positive influence in the workplace. Another 40 percent found it increased employee camaraderie.
