Aspen appoints new senior vice president: Sean Upton is now the senior vice president of environmental claims for Aspen U.S. Insurance. With the last four years of his career focused on managing claims under a range of pollution insurance products, Upton brings over 15 years of civil litigation experience to the company.

NIF announces new addition: NIF Group announced that Brian Johnson has joined the agency an assistant vice president of NIF services in Warwick, R.I.

Co-chair of Real Time/Download campaign named: Stuart Durland AAI, AINS, has been named the co-chair of the Real Time/Download Campaign. Durland is vice president of operations at Seely & Durland, has 33 years of experience in the industry and succeeds Karen Youngman.

Mergers and Acquisitions

Insurance brokerage working on its 19th acquisition: Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. announced the purchase of Worksite Communications to build on its benefits consulting business. Worksite Communications offers classes and enrollment services for benefit programs in the U.S, specializes in public sector employers and unions and will continue operations in its current area.

New acquisition with Markel: Markel Corp. announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Thompson Insurance Enterprises (THOMCO). THOMCO is headquartered in Kennesaw, Ga., has 108 employees and manages over 20 national programs—such as medical transportation, senior living and childcare centers. Completion of the acquisition is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2012.

Chubb works to protect private companies: Chubb Group of Insurance Cos. now offers insurance coverage and risk management services to its forefront portfolio 3.0sm program. With these new offerings, U.S. companies are able to pick from 9 management and professional liability coverage options. The portfolio offers crime insurance customers a limited number of free employee background investigations, discount crime risk assessment services and complimentary employee crime hotline.

5Star extends coverage to 43 states: 5Star Specialty Programsannounced its auto dealers program will provide coverage to all states except AK, CT, DC, HI, MA, MN, NJ and RI.
