A Liberty Mutual insurance claims adjuster finds she will get more than she bargained for while trying to cut costs.

According to police, Celina Garcia, of Lawrence, N.H., filed a false stolen motor vehicle report instead of paying a high repair bill on her car. She also collected nearly $7,400 from Liberty Mutual for the phony theft claim. Garcia, 34, actually abandoned the 2001 Nissan X-Terra in a Derry, N.H. auto repair shop in May.

She is charged with auto insurance fraud, larcency over $250 and filing a false police report.

The case has left Lawrence Police Chief John Romero "amazed," especially because she worked for Liberty Mutual.

"Liberty Mutual was one of those companied that was instrumental in the fight against insurance fraud," says Romero. "They really worked closely with us."

Over an eight-year period the department made more than 400 arrests in relation to fraud.

"She should have known about the auto insurance fraud task force that includes the Insurance Fraud Bureau (of Mass.)," says Romero.
