Rhode Island Rep. John J. McCauley, Jr. (D-Providence) is under investigation for alleged insurance fraud.

Executing a search warrant on Nov. 9, federal investigators carried out several boxes from the Providence office of McCauley & L'Europa Public Insurance Adjusters. A task force of Providence Police, RI State Police, FBI, and ATF are involved in the probe.

McCauley's partner, William L'Europa, silently watched the raid.

According to L'Europa, McCauley was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital on Saturday after being found in the office by family members who had not had contact with McCauley since Thursday.

The hospital would not confirm whether McCauley was a patient, if he is there, or if he was transferred to another facility.

According to law enforcement officials a federal grand jury will hear testimony on the case later this week.

McCauley was elected to the House of Representatives in 1990 and serves as deputy speaker.
