Texas residents continue to be most likely in the U.S. to lack healthcare coverage, with 27.2 percent reporting they were uninsured in the first half of 2011. Massachusetts residents are most likely to have coverage, with 5.3 percent of residents going without, according to the results of Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which interviewed 177,237 adults from January through June 2011.
On average, 16.8 percent of all American adults were insured the first half of 2011, similar to the 16.4 percent in 2010. These percentages are higher than in 2008, when 14.8 percent of adults were uninsured.
Those living in the South and West are more likely to be uninsured than those living in the Northeast, which is consistent with what Gallup found in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
