Atlantic storm Ophelia had weakened, but now has strengthened again into a tropical storm, and could become the season's fourth hurricane today before passing near Bermuda over the weekend.
The National Hurricane Center says gradual strengthening is expected over the next 48 hours. The slow-moving storm has already caused flooding on the island of Dominica, according to news reports.
An AccuWeather.com report notes that Ophelia had been disrupted by wind shear, but reformed.
In the report, AccuWeather.com Tropical and Hurricane Expert Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski says that if the storm tracks east of Bermuda, the island will not experience significant wind or rain, but the storm could pose a greater danger if it tracks slightly farther to the west.
After Bermuda, AccuWeather says the system could pass near Newfoundland late Sunday, but it may be transitioning away from being a tropical cyclone by then.
The storm is not expected to threaten the U.S. East Coast.
Further west in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Philippe has formed, but could weaken to a tropical depression by Monday.
