A Media, Penn. woman was found guilty of arson, insurance fraud, and more on August 4, and it was all thanks to the fact that she committed her obnoxiously loud crimes in broad daylight for all of her neighbors to see and hear.

On Feb. 3, 2010, 36-year-old Katherine Davis reported criminal mischief at her apartment—she had found five holes in the rear window of her 2005 Honda Accord. Although she claimed to not know who caused the damage, neighbors who were questioned in the investigation noted that they had witnessed Davis hitting her vehicle with a hammer.

On February 4, Davis filed a claim with her insurer, Allstate, reporting that her vehicle had been burned. However, neighbors had witnessed Davis damaging her vehicle once again.

In the parking lot of the apartment complex where Davis resided, neighbors had seen her working on her car in the early hours of February 4, noting that smoke was billowing from the vehicle as Davis walked away. Moments later, the vehicle had gone up in flames, yet no one but Davis had been seen near it at any time.

When the fire department arrived, workers found the remains of what was believed to be paper towels in the filler neck of the gas tank, and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal determined arson as the cause. The fire had also charred part of a car parked next to the Accord.

The judge presiding over the case revoked the woman's $100,000 bail and release on recognizance, increasing the bail to $100,000, 10 percent. Unable to post bail as of late August, Davis awaits her October 17 sentencing in the Delaware County Prison.
