This year's winners of the fifth annual "Awards for Excellence in Workers' Compensation Risk Management" are Gary Eastes, risk and benefits manager for the City of Knoxville; Michael P. Murphy, manager, global property and casualty insurance, Kennametal; and Bruce Jones, director, insurance and Texas Plan Administrator, Community Health Systems (CHS).

For the first time ever, not only has a public risk manager won an award, but Eastes also has been named winner of the Risk Manager Champion award.

This year's winners were chosen for their loss control, return-to-work programs, employee advocacy, performance and leadership.

The award program is sponsored by the National Council on Compensation Insurance and spotlights three organizations for their outstanding approach to workers' comp risk mitigation.

Judging involves a two-stage process. National Underwriter senior editors screen the initial entries and then a panel of judges—last year's winners—choose the Champion and two runners-up.

The award program is run in cooperation with one of the most important events for workers' comp professionals, the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference (WCEC) and the Florida Workers' Compensation Institute.  All three winners are flown to the August conference in Orlando for the award ceremony.
