Robert Hartwig, president and economist at the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.), met today at 10 a.m. EST/9 a.m. CST with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.
Hartwig presented to Mayor Maddox a generous check from the I.I.I. on behalf of the industry to the City of Tuscaloosa's Storm Recovery Fund. The fund was established to cover the costs of rebuilding public properties.
"Private-sector insurers are expected to pay as much as $2 billion in response to the 165,000 anticipated claims their Alabama policyholders will file in the wake of April 2011's devastating tornadoes," Hartwig stated.
