Two women were named the 2011 recipients of the Andrew S. Frazier/The Institutes Honorary Scholarship, an award providing two CPCU scholarships per year to full-time college and university students.
The first recipient was Courtney B. Bass, a risk management and insurance major at Troy University in Ala. This summer, Bass is completing an internship with the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices (NAPSLO), spending part of the time at Axis Capital and the remainder with Peachtree Special Risk Brokers.
The second is Jessica A. May, at 2011 Summa Cum Laude graduate of St. John's University in New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in risk management and insurance. A member of the university's honors program, May also served as secretary of her school's chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, an actuarial science organization. May began full-time employment in June as an underwriting associate with Starr Indemnity & Liability Company.
The award was developed by The Institutes in collaboration with Western World Insurance Group in honor of Frazier, the former president of Western World who contributed 18 years to his leadership role in the insurance industry.
