Firefighters continue to battle fires throughout two counties as residents flee in the face of advancing flames.
Two major fires are raging along the Arizona and New Mexico border. The Wallow fire has consumed more than 200,000 acres and claimed four structures, but threatens more than 300, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Reports say that three towns have been totally evacuated and others are threatened in the counties of Apache and Greenlee.
Gov. Jan Brewer yesterday signed an emergency declaration releasing state money to help fight the blaze.
A second major fire, Horseshoe Two, has consumed more than 100,000 acres and is 55 percent contained, but the communities of Paradise, Whitetail and Chiricahua National Monument are under evacuation orders.
That fire has claimed six structures, two of them recreational cabins.
Both fires are said to have been started by a human and are under investigation.
