Aon eSolutions announced the beta testing phase for product enhancements to its risk information management system RiskConsole. The enhancements, which involve mobile applications, business intelligence, insurer ratings, data intake and record detail, are designed to improve the user experience for risk managers.

"These new capabilities were born out of a truly client-focused development process," says Phillip Lucas, director of global product management for Aon eSolutions. "We wanted to make sure our RMIS continues to improve the claims process in a substantive way, as opposed to mere flash. The best way to ensure that was to involve the clients in the development process from the start."

The new product enhancements include:

·         Enhanced Business Intelligence: Aon eSolutions will offer viewing dashboards and business intelligence reports online and with the mobile application. If a report or dashboard is developed in IBM Cognos, Aon eSolutions' business intelligence platform, users will be able to view that information on a mobile device. Whether accessed online or from a workstation, the enhanced dashboard is more interactive and self-sufficient and offers more capabilities for the end user to conduct business.

Aon eSolutions is also working on the ability to edit and update information. For example, a user can submit a claim or incident directly online, as well as make updates to that data on the mobile app. The incident data can be collected directly on the mobile device and put into the system immediately. With an active report, users can download reports locally to their computer and then work on the information without being fully connected to the system. Users will be able to drill down into the information even when it's locally accessed.

 ·         Mobile Applications: According to Gartner, by 2013 mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common Web access device worldwide. eSolutions will offer a RiskConsole Website optimized for mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad and Android. Users can search and find information about claims, policies, properties and exposures.

"We know that Web sites not optimized for these mobile devices are going to become an obstacle for clients as they conduct business more frequently on their iPad or other mobile device," says Lucas. "By optimizing RiskConsole, if someone calls and needs to know the status of a claim, it can be accessed immediately and with fewer clicks, a critical requirement for someone trying to work quickly from a mobile device."

 ·         Insurer Ratings: eSolutions will be able to pull in ratings for providers, such as AIG, Chubb, etc., and let clients know if there's been a change in the provider's A.M Best or S&P rating, as well as track all policy data within the RMIS.

"A ratings change can be related to solvency, and clients need to be aware of the issue because it speaks to the effectiveness of their coverage," Lucas said.

 ·         Secure Expanded Data Intake Solutions: This enhanced data intake provides the ability to enter data in the RMIS without a username or password, without sacrificing data security. The transmission of any data will be as secure as the rest of the RiskConsole system – arguably the most secure in the industry – so clients need not worry about the security of data in transit from the field to the RMIS. For instance, incident reporting from the field can include sensitive personal and medical information.

"The key to eSolutions' mobile offering is that it goes beyond a simple incident intake offering, as some companies currently offer," says Lucas. "Rather, it gives risk managers the ability to access reporting and potentially some administrative functionalities on-the-go."

 ·         Optimized Workflow and User Interface: This improved record detail does just what it says, allowing for better usability and improved workflow and data entry in the system. The interface is easier to navigate, with highlighted key features and a full view of hierarchies. The screen has been enhanced, revamped and rebuilt, allowing for work to be done that couldn't be done before, such as editing data in a grid. A larger amount of information will be available on the screen at one time, and clear onscreen instructions in each field improve the quality of data entering the system.

"This is one of the key topics Aon eSolutions' client advisory board suggested in terms of how a RMIS can help them in their day-today management practices, so it is an enhancement truly derived from the clients' needs," says Lucas. "All of these enhancements are a way for Aon eSolutions get ahead of the curve to meet our clients' needs, instead of playing catch up down the line."
