The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) awarded Bill Hofmann with the Woodworth Memorial award during the association's Legislative Conference and Convention held last week in Washington, D.C.

“Bill Hofmann has a long and distinguished record of service to the national association,” says Mike Miley, IIABA chairman, in a statement. “His work as chairman of the InsurPac board laid the groundwork for IIABA's million-dollar-a-year PAC, and he continues to be very politically active at the local, state and national level, promoting the Big “I” agenda.”

Hofmann, an independent agent from Massachusetts, has served on the national board of directors, executive committee and as the association's president. His committee work—both before and after his presidency—was also extensive, including work on the Government Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, AAS Board and many others.

His work on behalf of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents and IIABA was recognized in 2001 when he received MAIA's highest award, the Pacesetter of the Year Award, as well as the Insurance Professional of the Year Award.

The Woodworth Memorial award is the highest honor the IIABA bestows on one of its members. It recognizes the meritorious and outstanding contributions of an independent agent or broker to the national association, to his or her colleagues, and to the insurance industry, the association says.

The IIABA also presented the annual InsurPac National Championship, Young Agent of the Year and Eagle awards during the meeting.

The 2010 winners are:

  • InsurPac National Championship Award—Texas: This award goes to the state whose agents contribute the most money for InsurPac in a calendar year. Texas agents contributed $68,645.
  • Young Agent National Championship Award—North Carolina: This recognition honors the state whose young agents donate the most money to InsurPac. Young Agents from North Carolina contributed $12,836.
  • InsurPac Young Agent Award—the co-winners are Douglas Fairbanks and Holly Rossell of Michigan.
  • InsurPac Eagle Awards—this award is given annually to states that surpass a fundraising average of $100 per member agency. This year's recipients are Louisiana, North Dakota and South Carolina.
