The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) recognized three professionals for their contribution to the independent agent system.
Kristen M. Scott, was named the 2011 PIA National Young Insurance Professional (YIP) of the Year.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement by a young insurance professional. Scott was honored for her many activities in support of professional insurance agents and her efforts to attract more young people into the insurance industry including development of Project Y.
Project Y, a joint effort with PIA of New Jersey, is a marketing campaign designed to attract young professionals to a career in the insurance industry. The campaign's website employs a variety of methods to get young professionals' attention, offers resume-posting at no charge and gives established PIA members access to the resumes.
Scott was named NJYIP Director of the Year in 2006 and YIP of the Year in 2010.
She is assistant vice president of Chamber Insurance Agency Services of West Orange, N.J.
Mark J. LaLonde, was named the 2011 PIA National Professional Agent of the Year.
LaLonde is vice president of Bailey, Haskell and LaLonde, a regional insurance broker with headquarters in New York. The firm employs more than 90 people in eight locations throughout the East coast.
He joined PIA in 1987 and quickly rose through the ranks, serving on numerous committees. He has been heavily involved in government affairs, education and political action—among many other areas.
Babette Roush, of Associated Insurance Agencies, Inc. of Westerville, Ohio, was named the 2010 PIA National Customer Service Representative of the Year.
Roush is a previous recipient of the PIA of Ohio Chairman of the Year Award, and also has received a PIA Presidential Citation for membership growth.
