A Hemet, Calif. woman, whose family has been filing false claims since 2007, has been sentenced after authorities discovered she had been scheming with her former boyfriend and his father.
Olivia Lewis, 28, and her former boyfriend's father, Albert Adams, reported Lewis was struck by former boyfriend Nicky Adams' vehicle in 2007. The claim was deemed legitimate and Lewis collected $8,500 for medical expenses.
A year later, in November 2008, Nicky Adams' cousin Selina Fiaschetti, 27, and significant other Bobby Petro, 24, were arrested after filing a similar claim. They alleged Fiaschetti was hit by Petro's vehicle in a parking lot, but the claim was found to be false, and the two plead guilty to felony insurance fraud charges.
Nicky Adams then one-upped his cousin after being arrested in March of 2009 after filing (you guessed it) a similar claim, this time having allegedly hit an unnamed female pedestrian with his vehicle. During a voluntary in-custody interview, investigators were able to tie the family members together, as Nicky Adams was questioned about a tattoo reading "Olivia" on his arm, which he said was for his former girlfriend, Lewis, who is also the mother of his two children.
The claim involving Lewis and Albert Adams was then rediscovered. It turns out that Lewis had her hospital fees taken care of via charitable waiver and pocketed the claim funds. In February of this year, Lewis was sentenced to 60 days in jail, three years of probation and $8,500 in restitution for felony counts of insurance fraud and grand theft.
In the midst of these claims, Petro's mother, Velia Petro, 42, remains a fugitive, and Albert Adams is now deceased. These "family matters" would make quite the television show, no Steve Urkel required.
