The Professional Insurance Agents of Florida has named a seasoned association executive as its new CEO/executive vice president. Corey G. Mathews, CAE, recently assumed the leadership post at the Tallahassee-based trade group.
In making the announcement, PIA of Florida President Brian Samberg called Mathews “a dynamic and forward-thinking strategist.” Samberg said, “We are confident that with his experience and leadership, we will formulate a comprehensive vision that every agent in Florida will buy into.”
Mathews has had more than a decade of experience with Florida associations, including the Florida Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and the Financial Service Centers of Florida. He has crafted numerous successful membership and legislative campaigns that have produced steady membership growth and commitment. He holds a master's degree in public administration, a bachelor's degree in sociology, the professional designation of Certified Association Executive, and is a graduate of the Tallahassee Society of Association Executives' Program for Association Leadership.
In his new post, Mathews said he will work with the association's staff and board of directors to continue to position the organization as a highly responsive and effective provider to its members.
“I am both humbled and honored that the board and membership of PIA has entrusted me with leading their association,” Mathews said. “PIA is the 'insurance' for insurance agents. We protect the interests of our members and provide the stability and peace of mind to help them succeed in their business and serve their customers.”
Mathews will be introducing himself to members at the association's conference, “Agent Expo 2011,” March 30-April 1 at the Caribe Royale Hotel and Resort in Orlando. Working off the theme “Power Up Your Agency,” the group is billing the event as “Florida's First Appointment Show.” Attendees are being offered the opportunity to pre-schedule one-on-one private meetings with sponsoring companies. “The chance to make specific relationship connections in this way is — as far as we know — unique in Florida's convention season,” said Kym Godwin, PIA of Florida board member and Expo committee chair.
PIA of Florida has represented insurance agents statewide for over 65 years. It provides educational, legislative, advocacy, and networking services and support through its home office staff and volunteer committees.
