WASHINGTON—The Senate failed last night to pass legislation repealing the health care reform law, but did pass legislation repealing a provision of the law that imposed a widely criticized tax-reporting provision.
The Senate rejected, 47-51, an amendment that contained H.R. 2, "Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act," which was passed by the House last week.
H.R. 2 was rejected through an amendment to legislation reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration.
But the Senate did pass, 81-17, another amendment that repealed Section 9006 of the law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
That provision would have required all business entities to file a 1099 form with the Internal Revenue Service for each vendor for whom they have cumulative transactions of $600 or more starting in 2012.
The FAA bill now goes to the House for final approval.
