Jim Ridling will continue to be the insurance commissioner in Alabama despite a change at the governor's office.
Gov.-elect Robert Bentley said Commissioner Ridling "is a respected insurance professional with many years of valuable experience."
Mr. Bentley, a Republican, defeated Democratic Ron Sparks for governor in November. Gov. Bob Riley, also a Republican, served two terms.
Gov. Riley appointed Commissioner Ridling, a native of Arkansas, in September 2008 to succeed Walter A. Bell, who was once the president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
Commissioner Ridling began his insurance career in 1967 with Fireman's Fund and eventually became executive vice president of U.S. operations. He then moved on to become chief executive officer of Southern Guaranty, a Fireman's Fund subsidiary. He retired in 2003.
