Midwest Employers Casualty Company, a St. Louis, Mo.-based excess workers' compensation insurance carrier, announced the appointment of Tom Lentz as vice president, chief financial officer, effective immediately.

Mr. Lentz's responsibilities will include management of the company's financial operations, and he will also serve on the senior executive leadership team, contributing to the company's overall strategic direction.

MECC said Mr. Lentz has 25 years of experience managing financial operations in the property and casualty insurance industry, including CFO and senior financial executive positions with several specialty insurance organizations.

He began his career in public accounting with Coopers and Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Since its formation in 1986, MECC, a member company of W. R Berkley Corporation, has focused exclusively on providing workers' compensation excess insurance products to individual employers and groups across the country.
