Value Meal, A Side of Fraud
A 30-year-old woman has gone from food court to court room after making false claims against a fast-food retailer.
Aimee Clemons filed a claim for $2,775 in damages in 2008, stating her daughter's throat was injured after she choked on a chicken bone in a McDonald's sandwich. Clemons concocted the story by falsifying medical reports, surgical procedures, and treatment locations for her daugh-ter's alleged injury.
Following a long police investigation, Clemons was charged with insurance fraud, third-degree forgery, and criminal attempt to commit third-degree larceny.
She pled guilty to insurance fraud on September 8, 2010 and was sentenced to two years in jail, suspended, followed by an unconditional discharge for her criminal conduct. While Clemons' daughter may or may not have choked on a chicken bone, it's clear that the punishment in this case is sure hard to swallow.
