Modeler EQECAT said damages and losses from a magnitude 6.7 earthquake on Oct. 21 are expected to be minimal.
The earthquake was located in the Gulf of California between Baja California and Mexico. Though the quake was shallow, it was barely felt on land although about four million people were exposed to some shaking, EQECAT said.
At around the same location, nine earthquakes were recorded before the 6.7 quake on Thursday. EQECAT said the 6.7 quake could also be a so-called "foreshock," but "considering its magnitude, it is more likely to be the main shock" and will probably be followed by several aftershocks.
