A magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred off the coast of Mexico in the Gulf of California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at 10:53 Pacific Daylight Time, and the epicenter was located 85 miles northeast of La Paz, Baja California.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no "destructive widespread tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," but the service noted that earthquakes of this size can generate local tsunamis along coasts located about 62 miles from the epicenter.

So far, there have been no reports of damage.
