Michael "Mike" R. Donohoe was named chairman-elect of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America at the conclusion of the IIABA's recently held Leadership Conference in San Francisco.
Mr. Donohoe is an owner and an independent agent of the James R. Weir Insurance Agency in Mankato, Minn. He will assume the position of IIABA chairman in the fall of 2011.
"Mike has long been hailed as a true champion of the independent agency system in his home state of Minnesota and across the country," said Robert Rusbuldt, IIABA president and chief executive officer. "The Big 'I' is proud to announce that he will continue his good work on the association's leadership team as the chairman-elect."
IIABA said that Mr. Donohoe's numerous contributions to the independent agency system have spanned several decades and include serving as president of the Minnesota Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers and representing the North Star State on IIABA's national board of directors. He was twice named Minnesota "Young Agent of the Year" and was the 1994 "Minnesota Agent of the Year."
At the national level, Mr. Donohoe was elected to the IIABA's executive committee in 2006. He has been instrumental to the success of the IIABA's Virtual University and served as the chair of the VU oversight task force from 2001 to 2006.
Mr. Donohoe was instrumental in founding the IIABA's Eagle Agency, an independent agency created exclusively for association members. In 2005, he received the Woodworth Memorial award, the highest honor that can be earned by an IIABA member for outstanding service benefiting independent insurance agents and the entire insurance industry.
