James R. Pender was elected chairman of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers at the group's 97th annual Insurance Leadership Forum in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mr. Pender is honorary chairman of the board of BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company of Florida.
Mr. Pender succeeds H. Wade Reece as CIAB chairman. Mr. Reece is chairman and CEO of BB&T Insurance Services Inc.
Mr. Pender has been active in the insurance and financial services business for more than 50 years. He is the past president of the Cleveland Chapter of CPCU, past chairman of Assurex Global International and a former college insurance professor. He co-founded the BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company organization in 1980.
