This is the first Hylelites blog and I hope there are many to come, but since this is what is known as a cold opening those of you lucky enough to stumble across it are in on the ground floor.

There are plenty of blogs available for your reading pleasure, but the reason I hope you spend a little time here is because I want this to be a fun place for you to visit several times a week to find some thoughts about what is going on in the world of insurance and technology.

If I find an interesting story in another magazine, newspaper or Web site that I think you might enjoy, I'll post a link to it. I may even have a few words on the subject as well. Most of these will be short, but a few will be longer–particularly my monthly column for the magazine which will run here before you get the paper version.

Since I interview a lot of people for magazine and Web articles, you might also find a random quote that could be of particular interest to you.

Of course, saying what I am going to do and actually doing it can be two entirely different things. As Cincinnati Bengals football coach Marvin Lewis is so fond of saying to fans in Bengal-land, "I see better than I hear."

So I'll shut up now and provide you with some examples of what I'm talking about.

Chris Matyszczyk over at c-net news has some interesting thoughts about iPad users. Apparently a study describes them as being selfish and elite. Imagine that.

I don't have an iPad, so I don't fall into that little club, but if you go to any conferences you certainly could win one. There must have been a half-dozen vendors giving them away at the IASA conference in June.

I wouldn't describe the IT people attending IASA as selfish or elite. They are probably talking about the underwriters.
