Hartford, Conn.-based insurer The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. was honored earlier this week with the 2010 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award by The National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit association of large employers.
The Hartford was recognized for its commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and for encouraging workers and families to support and maintain healthy lifestyles.
The company offers an array of wellness programs designed to improve employees' health status and, in turn, improve productivity and reduce medical claims.
The programs include a health risk assessment tied to financial incentives; a smoking cessation program; lifestyle and disease management programs; notifications to employees and physicians identifying potential gaps in care; on-site health clinics and fitness centers; and a certified nutritionist available to employees at no cost.
The company also has a medical plan for employees that covers services such as physicals and preventive screenings.
The Hartford was among 66 employers that received the award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health's Institute of Innovation in Workforce Well-being on June 14.
Among the other recipients were Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. and State Farm Insurance Co.
