Harry Spring, government relations regional director for Humana Inc., has been elected chairman of the Florida Insurance Council (FIC)--a state insurance trade association.

The term runs for one year, beginning this month, FIC said in a statement. Mr. Spring was elected at FIC's Summer Insurance Symposium in Clearwater Beach, Fla.

As chairman, Mr. Spring will help provide FIC member companies with educational programs, research, and representation to legislative, regulatory, judicial and consumer organizations.

Mr. Spring has been with Louisville, Ky.-based Humana--a health and supplemental benefits provider--for more than 20 years. He is based in Tallahassee, Fla., where he serves as Humana's public policy advocate and manager for the Southeast, Indiana, Ohio and Puerto Rico.

Mr. Spring currently serves on the Florida Health Insurance Advisory Board and advisory boards for the Center for Health Information and Policy Analysis and the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida. He is also on the boards of the Florida Chamber Political Institute and the Florida Comprehensive Health Association.
