Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. announced the award of an academic grant and the appointment of Roger L. Andrews as chairman of its board of directors.
Mr. Andrews is director of risk management at E.D. Bullard Company, a manufacturer of personal protective equipment and systems that are marketed worldwide. His background also includes time as Maine Bureau of Insurance manager of property and casualty.
In 1982, Spencer Educational Foundation said Mr. Andrews drafted the legislation that created the risk management division for the State of Maine, and he became the first director of risk management for the state.
Spencer Educational Foundation also said Mark Butler, of Liberty Mutual Middle Market, will serve as a director on the board. Mr. Butler, a new board member, was appointed chief operating officer and general manager of middle market at Liberty Mutual in 2008.

oBrion E. Callori, FM Global, named vice president.
oCraig M. Van der Voort, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., named treasurer.
oAndrew L. Miller named secretary.
Spencer Educational Foundation announced a $50,000 grant to Ball State University for the development of loss prevention course curricula for students studying risk management and insurance.
FM Global funded the grant, Spencer Educational Foundation said.
Ball State University with Miller College of Business and the College of Architecture and Planning, will use the grant "to develop three course modules that focus on the importance of loss prevention in reducing an organization's total cost of risk", Spencer Educational Foundation said.
