Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. honored two of its executives at the YMCA's 40th Annual National Salute to Black Achievers in Industry Awards (bai), held last week in New York.

The bai honored Clare Collins-Newton of Mercer and Rachel Perry of Marsh.

Eric Hutcherson of Mercer, a bai alum, was also presented with the Elaine Edmonds Award for his demonstrated drive and energy in bringing the business and community service worlds together, to the benefit of both.

Ms. Collins-Newton, partner and chief information officer, North America for Mercer's outsourcing business and Ms. Perry, senior vice president and casualty practice leader for Marsh's Atlanta office, were among 31 executives recognized at this year's event. They were recognized for their outstanding professional achievement and community involvement.

The bai awards were conceived by the YMCA in 1971 to recognize and celebrate African-American men and women who have made significant contributions to their respective industries and communities.

Through its partnership with the Harlem YMCA, MMC has inducted more than 30 honorees into the bai since 1989.

In its participation in the bai, MMC, along with other organizations, is able to endow college scholarships for New York City youth and sustain a variety of youth and teen programs at the YMCA. Four of the 52 student scholarships distributed this year were funded by MMC.

They were presented to: Terrell Henderson of Rice High School; Ama Henewa Otchere of John Bowne High School; Sasha-Gaye Powell of Talent Unlimited High School, and Jaimi Ross of Frederick Douglass Academy.

"MMC and its Operating Companies are delighted that the Harlem YMCA has singled out our company's talent by choosing Eric Hutcherson as the recipient of the Elaine Edmunds Award," said Kathryn Komsa, chief diversity officer at MMC. "We are pleased this year to recognize both the achievements of our honorees, and to broaden our support of the community through our participation in the scholarship program. We trust that our scholarship recipients will be motivated by these role models of business and community leadership, and we look forward to seeing them sit on the dais one day as bai honorees themselves."

Ms. Collins-Newton of Mercer, a leading global provider of consulting, outsourcing, and investment services, heads a staff of 230 technology professionals across the United States, Canada, and India.

Ms. Perry of Marsh, has led a group of more than 20 casualty professionals in the Atlanta office along with her responsibilities as the senior casualty broker on several large multinational clients.

As manager of Marsh's campaign with the United Way, she helped raise approximately $100,000 in total fundraising for the Atlanta office's 2007 and 2008 campaigns.

Ms. Perry is a professional mentor for insurance students in the Atlanta RIMS society and a speaker for Women of Grace, a women's organization focused on empowerment and self-esteem of women.

Mr. Hutcherson is partner and global human resource leader for Mercer's outsourcing business and shared services center in India. At Mercer, he is on the steering committee for the RED network and has been instrumental in developing relationships with the National Black MBA Association and the International Association of Black Actuaries.
