The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents said it will hold its annual Federal Legislative Summit March 17-18 in Washington, D.C.

"This year's summit occurs as many issues with the potential to affect agents' bottom lines are in focus on Capitol Hill," said PIA National President Jon D. Spalding in a statement.

He noted that Congress is currently considering regulatory reform, health care reform, natural catastrophe policy, flood insurance issues and proposed revisions to the crop insurance industry's standard reinsurance agreement and said PIA members "will be addressing all of these issues" when they meet with lawmakers.

The Summit begins March 17 with an orientation session followed by an in-depth legislative briefing conducted by PIA government affairs staffers at the Marriott Crystal City in Arlington, Va.

On March 18, former Congressman Tom Davis, R-Va., will deliver a keynote address during the Summit breakfast program.

After the breakfast, PIA members are scheduled to visit Capitol Hill for meetings with lawmakers in their offices.

A reception for all Summit participants that evening will be followed by the annual fundraising and awards dinner of the PIA Political Action Committee (PIAPAC).

Dinner participants will hear from Peter Earnest, founding executive director of the International Spy Museum and a 35-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency.

In addition to legislative meetings on Capitol Hill, PIA said members will meet March 19 with USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) officials to discuss the federal crop insurance program in greater detail.
