National Underwriter is accepting entries and nominations for its fourth annual "Awards For Excellence In Workers' Compensation Risk Management," sponsored by the National Council on Compensation Insurance.

The NU award program will spotlight three organizations for their outstanding approach to workers' comp risk mitigation.

Last year's winners were 2009′s Champion–Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide–along with Snap-on and INTEGRIS Health, which both won Honorable Mention.

All three 2009 winners will share the secrets of their success during the Risk and Insurance Management Society's annual conference–on Thursday, April 29, from 9:45-to-11:15 a.m. in Boston–in a session titled: "Excellence in Workers' Compensation Risk Management."

Prior winners include 2008 Champion ServiceMaster, along with Honorable Mentions Walt Disney Company and Select Staffing.

The NU award program is run in cooperation with the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference (at which NU presents a National Trends program) and the Florida Workers' Compensation Institute (which manages the annual WCEC event).

Among the key points to keep in mind:

o The risk management programs of all three winners will be individually profiled in the Aug. 16 edition of NU.

o A representative from the risk management department of each of the three winning firms will be flown to Orlando to attend the WCEC from Aug. 15-17, where they will receive their awards during the Opening General Session.

o The winners will discuss their approaches at a special "NU Roundtable" at the WCEC on Aug. 17, with highlights printed in our Oct. 25 edition.

Risk managers are invited to submit their own programs for consideration by May 11.

Agents and brokers as well as insurers and third-party administrators are welcome to nominate candidates by April 7. However, a third-party nomination is not required for a risk manager to enter. Nominations call NU's attention to worthy candidates, who will be approached and invited to enter.
