Richard Burr of North Carolina, the U.S. Senate Republican chief deputy whip, will address the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America membership March 4, the group announced.

Sen. Burr will be a featured speaker at the legislative conference breakfast during the group's National Legislative Conference and Convention to be held March 3-5 in Washington, D.C.

Sen. Burr is a senior member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee which shares health care jurisdiction in the Senate with the Finance Committee.

He currently serves as a ranking member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee; Senate Intelligence Committee; the Energy and Natural Resources Committee; and the Indian Affairs Committee.

The senator is in his first term representing his state and was previously in the wholesale commercial products industry.

Robert A. Rusbuldt, chief executive officer of the IIABA said the organization is pleased the senator will address members kicking off their annual visit to see their Capital Hill representatives.

Charles E. Symington, Jr., IIABA senior vice president for government affairs noted Sen. Burr has been a "longtime friend" of small business owners in his state and "his commitment to real health care reform will provide an important perspective that our members nationwide will appreciate."

This year's event will take place at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.
